Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Ajax is close to signing former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on a free transfer. The deal is expected to be a short-term contract running until June, as initially reported by GBabaSport.
The agreement includes a performance-based clause: if Tomiyasu performs well during the remainder of the season, Ajax may offer him a longer contract extension in the summer of 2026. Negotiations between the club and the 27-year-old Japanese international are now in the final stages.
Tomiyasu, whose current Transfermarkt valuation is €16 million, became a free agent after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Arsenal in the summer window. During his time at the Gunners, the defender made 84 appearances across all competitions, contributing 2 goals and 6 assists. Ajax is looking to finalize the deal quickly to bolster their squad.
